About
The Toronto EDM duo marks 15 years with a sprawling tapestry. In 2025, Toronto EDM duo Zeds Dead released their first proper album, Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, in nearly a decade. And apparently, that long gap gave them plenty of time to accumulate all sorts of extra material, because just over a year later, we have this equally epic sequel. Like its predecessor, Return to the Return unfurls a sprawling, mixtape-like tapestry of bass-bin-blasting pop (“In Your Head”), indie-sleazy bangers (“Angel 2”), dreamy drum ’n’ bass (“Out of Time”), and deep-house reveries (“Change of the Moon”), all tied together with samples of old instructional science lectures that form a connective thread to the previous release’s themes of utopian space-exploration. But given that Return to the Return arrives as Zeds Dead celebrate their 15th anniversary, there’s a more pronounced nostalgic nod to their hip-hop collagist roots, with atmospheric DJ Shadow-esque pieces like “Pourin Rain” (featuring legendary Nova Scotia turntablist Skratch Bastid) and “Portal” harking back to a time when the duo were first endtroducing themselves to the world.
