About
When Nick Jonas thinks about his “Sunday best,” he remembers how he and his family would show up to church on Sundays: dressed well and focused on the service at hand. His father was an ordained minister, and Jonas is now a father himself, raising a toddler with his wife of eight years, Priyanka Chopra. His fifth solo album Sunday Best is a portrait of this stage in his life, where he wants to show up as his best self at all times. On opening track “Sweet to Me,” Jonas paints a picture of the tender moments in his life: renting movies with his dad at Blockbuster, spitting out watermelon seeds in the backyard that would then grow into more fruit. Across the album, he’s vulnerable and thankful for the life he’s lived so far and what he’s been able to build. He takes a step back to analyze moments of self-criticism on single “Gut Punch,” where he lists the insecurities that come with getting older and seeing your body change in the mirror. “If you find that inner child/Haven’t seen him for a while/Let him know he’s doing fine/Hit me like a gut punch,” he sings. Family is at the heart of every note on the album. He sings with his brothers Joe and Kevin on “The Greatest” and pledges a forever kind of love to Chopra on songs like “I Need You.” The real star in Jonas’ eye is his daughter, of course. He ends his album offering to play “Princesses” with her.
