In the Baltimore hardcore scene, Turnstile may have graduated top of class, but Justice Tripp of Angel Du$t was there handing out diplomas. The vocalist, who is also a member of Trapped Under Ice, has been an integral part of the Maryland hardcore and punk scene in its 2010s and onward iteration, with his various projects serving as guiding lights for the community. With Angel Du$t, Tripp and his rotating cast of band members expand the genre into a number of strange and exciting places. On 2026’s <i>COLD 2 THE TOUCH</i>, Tripp is more restless than ever before. He offers up a pretty stellar Smashing Pumpkins impression on “DU$T” before pushing the grunge guitars into the corner and giving the song’s back half a helping of thrash-guitar riffs, blast beats, and screamo vocals. “Pain Is a Must” blends sludge rock and hair metal, proving that Justice Tripp and Angel Du$t have been stretching the limits of hardcore for as long as Baltimore’s been popping off.
