About
Though Konono N°1 started as a Congolese Bazombo band playing in the streets for fun and tips, their buzzing, DIY approach to amplifying the likembe put them in a genre all their own. This beautifully unclassifiable debut album finds them bringing on all manner of salvaged percussion, from car parts to kitchen utensils, resulting in the explosive, cacophonous sounds found in the shimmying "Masikulu," the steel-drum-meets-synthesizer beat of "Kule Kule," and the urgent, techno-like "Paradiso."
