About
As if on a narcotic-induced shamanic trip, Santana leads listeners into a meditative rock trance on 2012’s mostly instrumental Shape Shifter. Armed throughout with an arsenal of effects pedals, the band adds a wallop of ambient synths in “Nomad,” while “Never the Same Again” takes easy listening and throws in a dose of strangeness. Carlos Santana’s electrifying and slithery shredding is the spirit guide throughout, as evinced on “Canela,” which transports the listener into a fever dream of Latin-infused organ riffs.
