About

Given his music's feral, sweat-stained quality, somehow it makes sense that Timmy Vulgar hails from Detroit, land of rock ’n’ roll beasts like The MC5 and Iggy Pop. One of Vulgar's latest ventures, Timmy’s Organism (he also drives the deranged Human Eye), feels clearly rooted in Motor City sturm und stomp. Raw Sewage Roq swaps the bad-trip vibe of 2010’s Rise of the Green Gorilla for a retro garage-punk flavor. The result's a well-oiled heap o’Detroit gold. The hilarious “Cats on the Moon” is a swaggering trash-rock ode that namechecks Elvis and John Travolta before the trio shouts “Everybody, welcome to the U.S.A.!” It sets the tone for Raw Sewage. Bands from The Dead Boys to The Stooges and Ty Segall come to mind as T.O. romps through incendiary punk tunes like “Monster Walk” and “Unhook My Leash,” as well as pounding, curiously melodic numbers like “Low Cut Surgery” (this one sits apart with a smart little piano riff). Vulgar manages to come off like a delirious Jello Biafra on “Poor and Bored,” with drums furiously pummeled and guitars screeching like a cat on barbed wire. Filthy good fun.
