About
Considering they'd lost lead singer Jim Morrison the previous year, it's amazing that The Doors soldiered on in any form. Other Voices—the immediate follow-up to L.A. Woman, The Doors' final studio album with Morrison—was a collection of ideas the band had worked up with the intention of having Morrison add his finishing touches. Full Circle, on the other hand, is The Doors' final album and the only one conceived as a trio. There are awkward moments here. "The Mosquito" is a bizarre Mexican-influenced tune that sounds like a parody of "La Cucaracha." "Get Up and Dance" is an odd party number. However, the addition of jazz flautist and saxophonist Charles Lloyd for "Verdilac" and "The Piano Bird" creates an exciting new dimension for the group, whose instrumental chops have never been questioned. "Good Rockin'" is a credible cover of Roy Brown's "Good Rockin' Tonight." While no one will confuse this version of The Doors with the Jim Morrison–led band, there's still plenty of musicality here for both the curious and the hardcore fan.
