About

In place of the stinging electric riffs that had become John Lee Hooker's trademark, this 1960 album finds him focusing on the acoustic guitar. Bassist Sam Jones and drummer Louis Hayes bring a subtle swing to Hooker's moody minimalism, increasing the tension on doomy cuts like "Gonna Use My Rod" and amplifying the music’s smoldering sensuality on a cover of Barrett Strong's "Money" (here titled "I Need Some Money").
