About
Throughout Vital, Anberlin’s sixth album, the Florida emo unit embrace the stylistic extremes of their sound, bringing a more pronounced electronic edge than on previous efforts. Thrashing guitars and pounding drums pulse through "Self-Starter"; keyboard hooks collapse into a ferocious, effects-laden breakdown on "Intentions"; and the riffs snaking through "Little Tyrants" even call back to '80s hard rock. On the lighter side, "Innocent" is a delicate synth-pop number with a gossamer gothic hue, while a glassy piano riff adds melancholic grandeur to the aching "Unstable."
