About

The final album by beloved folk-rock act Red House Painters, 2001’s Old Ramon is a powerfully melancholic and vividly lyrical swan song. Written and produced by Mark Kozelek, who is also the album’s central performer, the album bears his typical reflectiveness on topics like his cats (“Byrd Joel”), his unabashedly honest romanticism (“Void”), and, of course, loss (“Michigan”). Tracks like “River” show off his striking ability to conjure bucolic, nostalgic imagery convincingly and with ease.
