About

Oedipus Schmoedipus is a 1996 studio album by English musician Barry Adamson, released on 29 July 1996 by Mute Records. The record serves as a soundtrack to an imaginary film, exploring the Oedipus complex through what Adamson described as "a sexual psychoanalytical journey examining mother and son relationships in a somewhat humorous, yet dark way." Blending ambient electronics, cool jazz, and hip-hop elements with noir cinema influences from the 1940s to 1970s, it features mostly instrumental tracks punctuated by occasional sung vocals or spoken word. The packaging featured a sleeve concept developed by Barry Adamson and Simon Henwood, with cover .
