About

On 2013’s stinging Mosquito, Yeah Yeah Yeahs concoct venomous indie rock that broods and defies. The album starts with clanking fury on “Sacrilege,” a fiery tune set ablaze by Nick Zinner’s piercing guitar licks and Karen O’s fickle vocal outbursts. They set suspenseful basslines against raucous tribal drumming on the title track, and the brazen sci-fi jam of “Area 52” serves hard rock on the rocks. Their moody atmospherics, seething with passion, set a nice, slow burn on the rock ballads “Wedding Song” and “Subway.”
