"Selected Ambient Works 85-92" is the debut studio album by the British electronic music producer Richard D. James, known professionally as Aphex Twin. It was released on 9 November 1992 through Apollo Records, a subsidiary of the Belgian label R&S Records. The album consists primarily of ambient techno compositions recorded between 1985 and 1992, some of which James created during his early teenage years using homemade equipment, synthesisers, drum machines, and cassette recordings. Before the album's release, James had begun experimenting with music using instruments such as piano, home computers, samplers, and modified synthesisers. He became known within local music .
