About

From the first notes of this debut, it’s clear that The Lone Bellow is a remarkable new band. Those opening moments include stirring three-part harmonies that steal the show, expressing heartfelt lyrics based on themes of longing, grief, redemption, and love. The group's sound is a polished and pastoral blend of acoustic folk, country rock, Southern gospel, and blue-eyed soul. Besides singing, the trio members play guitars and mandolin, and they're backed here by a highly skilled band on piano, fiddle, banjo, more guitars, drums, and bass. The musicianship is subtle yet powerful, and the songs are rich and varied, from the simmering soul of “You Never Need Nobody” and “You Don’t Love Me Like You Used To” to the moving ballads “Tree to Grow” and “Two Sides of Lonely.” “Green Eyes and a Heart of Gold” is an uptempo standout, and the irresistibly sultry “Button” closes the album in high style. But whatever the tempo, the band maintains a burning intensity throughout, forging an emotional connection with listeners that's honest and direct. This is a powerful and passionate debut by a band with a wealth of potential.
