Unlike the soundtrack to the movie Janis Joplin, which — most unfortunately — contained studio versions of songs performed in the film but not the actual live takes from the motion picture; this 1973 double-LP from Reprise/Warner Brothers has the actual music from the celluloid. The liner notes to Sound Track Recordings From the Film Jimi Hendrix note that the film contains “all the performances included in this album,” so there are none of the substitutions that Joplin fans would encounter two years hence.
