About

Cayucas is the work of one Zach Yudin, who re-imagines the past in his own peculiar Technicolor. Working with producer Richard Swift (Secretly, The Shins, Damien Jurado)—an accredited avant-garde composer himself—Yudin crafts pop songs for a radio format that's never existed. "A Summer Thing" takes its inspiration from Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys; Rudin's vocals sound much like Wilson's, but the music takes a chilly move away from the Boys' organic instrumentation to that echo-plexed electronic world where so many indie bands find themselves in 2013. "East Coast Girl" throws together a gravity-free groove and hyper-enthused vocals reminiscent of Vampire Weekend. "Deep Sea" could be '90s-slacker Beck reflecting after his "Devil's Haircut" about the way the waves used to be. "Ayawa 'Kya" grabs analog synths and matches them with harmonized vocal blocks that sound as fresh and innocent as the early '60s.
