About
The four Strypes members—aged here between 16 and 18—grew up together in Cavan in the north of Ireland. With the assistance of Elton John’s Rocket Music Management, they make it known they play rock ’n’ roll the way it was meant to be played. Their blues roots came through on an early EP, but their hard-nosed sense for rock ’n’ roll blares through their debut album. Had it come decades before, Snapshot could’ve been the debut for The Rolling Stones, The Who, Van Morrison and Them, or The Animals. In the ‘70s, it would’ve been the pub-rock of Dr. Feelgood or Brinsley Schwarz. As it is, they take their name from The White Stripes, with a deliberate misspelling thrown in for good measure. As fans of Jack White, they know what brutal rock must do and how important energy and ambition are to the equation. Songs like “Mystery Man,” “She’s So Fine," and “I Can Tell” get the most from their production by Chris Thomas (The Beatles, Sex Pistols, Pretenders). Long live rock!
