About
Some Kind of Monster, the film, documents the making of the album St. Anger and what turned out to be a crossroads in the band’s career, as bassist Jason Newsted was gone and producer Bob Rock handled the bass duties until Robert Trujillo was found and added to the touring lineup. “Some Kind of Monster,” the song, was issued as the “single” and appears here in its full eight-and-a-half-minute album version and as a four-minute edit. The six live tracks were recorded on June 11, 2003, in Paris and were also made available on the Unnamed Feeling EP. Most interesting here is that the band chose to forego any live recordings of songs from its recent releases, including St. Anger, for the tried-and-true anthems from the first three albums.
