About

To celebrate their 21st anniversary, Stuart Staples and his remaining Tindersticks assembled at Abbey Road Studios to re-record songs from their catalog that they felt needed touch-ups or revisions. Only hardcore fans will notice most changes, with just a few tracks getting serious-enough overhauls to be obvious to the casual ear. “Friday Night” and “Marseilles Sunshine” first appeared on Stuart Staples’ debut solo album, Lucky Dog Recordings ’03-’04: showing how fuzzy the borders are between what's Tindersticks and what isn't. The minimalism turns to a subdued buzz where fidelity plays a large part in the re-creation. “I Know That Loving” and the cover of Odyssey's “If You’re Looking for a Way Out” are rescued from obscurity; they're from the band’s now-unavailable Simple Pleasure album. “A Night In” is actually downsized from its days in the larger consortium, with just half the members around to execute its velvet glamour. Tindersticks have always been about extending the mood, and this fine collection sounds brilliant in the night air.
