About
Though Irish rocker Glen Hansard has been well-known in his homeland for decades as the leader of The Frames—a band as well-regarded as U2 there—he reached American audiences with his performance in the film Once, for which he and Czech songwriter Markéta Irglová (as The Swell Season) took home an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly.” Following the success of his first solo album, Rhythm and Repose, this EP adds a touching version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Drive All Night” that also features Eddie Vedder, Joe Henry, and Clarence Clemons’ nephew Jake. Three originals—“Pennies in the Fountain,” “Renata," and “Step Out of the Shadows”—further illuminate the reasons for Hansard’s success. He has a romantic streak for the ages that puts him on par with his fellow countrymen Van Morrison and Sinead O’Connor.
