About

This hoppin' collection of tracks by legendary Hawaiian slack-key guitarist Sol Hoopii gives us a wonderful glimpse into his career from 1927 until 1951, during which time he mastered his famous C#-minor tuning. It’s hard not to move when you hear these jaunty jazz tunes, especially the ones from 1929, on which Hoopii's original ensemble works together with Andrew Aiona's Saxophone Trio. The tremulous strings of the mellow "Hano Hano Hawaii" and the drifting "Hawaii Nei," with its smooth tenor vocals, are particularly magical.
