About
One of the most idiosyncratic, innovative, and influential records of the late '60s, The Incredible String Band's third album picks up on the psychedelic folk flavors of their second but also expands in a million other directions. The Scots employed a huge array of instruments, from sitar and oud to pan pipes and pennywhistle, touching on multiple international folk traditions way before the advent of "world music." All these influences are swirled into a dizzying mix of post-Dylan poetic imagery, Eastern spirituality, and a musical flow that might seem stream-of-consciousness if not so masterfully directed. Most important, the ISB pull it all off with a giddy sense of humor.
