About
Philadelphia’s Bleeding Rainbow (formerly Reading Rainbow) feature the singing and songwriting of married couple Sarah Everton and Rob Garcia, who provide enough tension to ensure that even the most obvious of riffs get an extra-dimensional twist to turn them into something special. Taking the raw power of their previous album, Yeah Right, and distilling it into shorter, more precise songs, the Rainbow deliver what's arguably their best album to date with 2014’s Interrupt. While due to the male-female vocal dynamic, it’s only natural to compare them to X, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and even the more obscure Eric’s Trip (remember Julie Doiron?), these noise-guitar-popsters accomplish much of their sound simply by turning the amps past the pain threshold and seeing what happens. “Monochrome” only requires the dedication to stick with it to capture a wailing, wobbly inner groove, and “Out of Line” requires mostly restraint. It’s the slightly dialed-down “Tell Me” and the harmonized “Dead Head” that require precision to go with the volume. Either way, it’s a gorgeous noise.
