The debut solo album from vocal powerhouse and <i>Glee</i> star Lea Michele is a luxuriant collection of big beats, torchy choruses (“You’re Mine”), and dramatic ballads (“Battlefield”). Fans of Michele’s work on <i>Glee</i> will recognize her emotional dynamism—even if this selection of songs eschews Broadway virtuosity for straightforward pop hooks. The hottest of the uptempo tracks—“Cannonball,” “Don’t Let Go,” and “Louder”—are layered with distorted guitars, synthesizer sparkle, and echoing production. And though these fill the majority of Michele’s debut, the ballads make an excellent showcase for her huge voice, which erupts on the moody, intense choruses of “Burn with You” and “You’re Mine.”
