About
Led by chief songwriter and lead singer Larry Blackmon, Cameo's ten-year run culminated with the two big hits off this album, "Word Up' and "Candy." Built around a slang phrase popular in the day, "Word Up" followed the vibe set on Cameo's earlier hit from 1984 "She's Strange." And if that weird vocal by Blackmon sounds like it was recorded off a transistor radio-well, it was. Besides the album's two biggest hits, Cameo kept the funk and roll vibe alive with strong album cuts such as "Fast, Fierce and Funny" and "Back and Forth."
