About
Enlisting Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou as producer, Buffalo heavy music veterans Every Time I Die breathe new life into their technical metalcore on their seventh album. Ryan Leger's drums sound ear-splittingly raw, while guitarists Jordan Buckley and Andy Williams strafe the songs with concussive riffs. While "Decayin' with the Boys" is characteristically caustic, many songs explore new sonic turf, none more dramatically than "Moor," with its foreboding piano lead exploding into bludgeoning chaos as Keith Buckley delivers one of his most impassioned vocal performances to date. Brimming with psych-rock twists and jazz-metal turns, From Parts Unknown is a late-career triumph.
