Bradford Cox’s debut under his Atlas Sound alias finds the Deerhunter frontman letting his experimental tendencies run wild, as he crafts a collection of ambient songs that sound like the remnants of a half-remembered dream. “Recent Bedroom” captures his love of swooning shoegaze guitars, while the glitchy “Cold As Ice” evokes its namesake with twinkling tambourines and echoing, crystalline vocals. Cox’s sonic dabbling can be indescribable at times, but what’s so remarkable about the album is how welcoming and serene it feels.
