About
Heigh Ho is only his second release, but it’s the work of a seasoned artist. At just 28, Blake Mills is already an in-demand session guitarist. He’s worked with Norah Jones, Band of Horses, Lucinda Williams, and other big names. On Heigh Ho, he’s joined by guests Benmont Tench, Don Was, Fiona Apple, and Jim Keltner. That’s a lot of name-dropping. But Mills more than lives up to it. The guitar playing is phenomenal. It’s textured, subtle, and brilliant without being showy. But he’s also a gifted songwriter and arranger, and his singing is emotional and distinct. Mills is one of those rare artists who has it all. And most importantly, he knows what to do with it.
