About

Stellar Regions is a posthumous album by John Coltrane, released by Impulse! Records (IMP 169). The material comes from tapes recorded on February 15, 1967, at Van Gelder Studio and later rediscovered in 1994 by Alice Coltrane, who also plays piano on the session and provided titles for the eight tracks. Not all of the music was entirely unreleased. The same take of ‘Offering’ had previously appeared on Coltrane’s final studio album Expression, while the track ‘Stellar Regions’ is an early version of ‘Venus’, later issued on Interstellar Space. The session itself took place one week before the sax-drums recordings .
