The Coral’s James Skelly was mindful not to raise expectations when news broke of <i>The Curse of Love</i>'s unearthing two years into the band’s hiatus. He needn't have worried. Recorded on a Tascam eight-track in 2006 just after the <i>The Invisible Invasion</i>’s completion, this is the most glorious sort of forgotten treasure. It’s a sombre, dream-like psych-folk set which drifts by beautifully. “Wrapped In Blue” is a taut late night refocussing of their jangly melodica, the propulsive “The Watcher In The Distance” is a masterclass in rock restraint while the Beatles-esque “Gently” is a gorgeous lullaby.
