Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward have taken their duo project further than anyone anticipated upon their debut. The two collaborate surprisingly well, and working with a 20-piece orchestra here forces them to focus on their harmonies. <i>Classics</i> is exactly as its title implies. The songs chosen are vintage pop, jazz, and country tunes that have been given a variety of workouts over the decades. Whether it’s Johnny Mathis’ “It’s Not for Me to Say,” Dusty Springfield’s “Stay Awhile,” or Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s “Would You Like to Take a Walk?,” She & Him treat the songs like they belong to them.
