About
More than 12 years after Dengue Fever formed, their alluring, cross-cultural concept remains vibrant. Already eclectic, this tight, versatile band further expand their Technicolor palette on their sixth release. Psychedelia, garage rock, spy-thriller soundtracks, surf guitar, and Cambodian pop remain the bedrock of their sound, but here they inject soul, hip-hop touches, and jazzy interludes as well. Sensuous Cambodian-born lead singer Chhom Nimol adds to the mystery by alternating her vocals between English and Khmer. And on the unstoppable grooves of “Still Waters Run Deep” and "Taxi Driver,” the band sprinkle in the right amount of exotica without sacrificing substance.
