Following up the platinum breakthrough of <i>Tornado</i> is no easy trick, but Little Big Town pull it off by playing to their strengths—great songs, chilling harmonies, and fierce performances. Besides the excellent collaborations with Natalie Hemby (who penned <i>Tornado</i>'s biggest hits), we love <i>Pain Killer</i>’s mix of country earthiness, rock ‘n’ roll edge, and pop-savvy hooks. The sassy, soulful tones of Karen Fairchild dominate, but all four members take brilliant turns at the mic, from the barnstorming "Save Your Sin" to the slow-burning soul of "Girl Crush.” Still, it’s the band’s signature four-part harmonies on cuts like "Silver and Gold” that make <i>Pain Killer</i> so gratifying.
