About
Ironically, 1979's <i>Best of The J. Geils Band</i> was released just before Geils and company became big stars. But the Boston band once known to fans as "the American Rolling Stones" had been pumping out gritty, R&B-soaked rock 'n' roll all through the '70s, and some of the finest moments of their output are here. The trailblazing rock/reggae fusion of their 1973 single "Give It to Me," their bluesy live take on The Supremes' "Where Did Our Love Go," and a soul-slathered take on The Marvelows' '60s soul/doo-wop merger "I Do" show the band's immersion in American roots music, while "Must of Got Lost" (<i>sic</i>) hints at the pop savvy that would soon result in stardom.
