About

The second album from this Indiana quartet boasts the kind of novelist-eye storytelling that makes bands like Richmond Fontaine so great. And The Band are a musical touchstone here, so the tunes are deceptively homespun and hugely cinematic. As much as “Sedona” is graceful, “Otis” is a loose country shamble. The gospel-garage road-raver “15 Years” soars on organ-guitar distortion and a hail of voices, while the Dylanesque ache of “For No One” pulls in a war vet’s lament while winking at Hemingway. “It don’t burn as fast as me,” sighs Katie Toupin on “Gasoline,” and it chills to the bone.
