Opening with a string of plaintive guitar-centric songs like “Torn By Wolves” and “Bless Your Blood,” the record presents a deceivingly calm and gentle mood before diving headfirst into the sidelong, monolithic “River of Transfiguration.” The track swells from a droning, unsettling intro and slowly unfolds into a cascade of chants and pitter-pattering drums; it’s as massive as it is formless, another ambitious offering from the psych-folk magus.
