Bebel Gilberto’s 2000 album teamed Brazilian musical royalty with visionary Serbian producer Suba to reinvent <i>sambas</i> and <i>bossa novas</i> for the new millennium. Breezy classics like “August Day Song” and “Sem Contencao” get fresh, mostly acoustic makeovers here, with subtle, airy electronic beats, while Gilberto’s breathy vocals lend the set a moody, wistful undercurrent. Languid, sexy, and sometimes dark, <i>Tanto Tempo</i> is the sound of Rio’s balmy beaches giving way to Sao Paulo’s dystopian futurism.
