About

In the mid-‘70s, the Walker Brothers reformed with a completely contemporary MOR sound that was well in-sync with the lite-FM and singer-songwriter boom of those years. Where their earlier work had been a juggernaut of orchestrated beauty and elaborate pop moves, No Regrets is a piece of modesty that did very well in Europe (where they always had more success than their American homeland). Tom Rush’s splendid “No Regrets” (found on his highly-recommended The Circle Game album) is a timeless melody and lyric that guarantees waterworks. Emmylou Harris’ “Boulder to Birmingham” is one of her strongest originals and the Brothers show their unexpected talent for country music, while never quite reaching her heights (as heard on her highly recommended Pieces of the Sky album). Jerry Butler’s “He’ll Break Your Heart” is given a modern reggae groove. The ballad “Everything That Touches You” sounds like a mellow troubadour gone a little wacky. The Walker Brothers are masters of many genres, by twisting them to their own peculiar whims.
