About
As far as morbid fascination goes, Chicago's Alkaline Trio doesn't mess around. Yes, the trio enjoys mincing words. It even interjects sarcastic, humorous phrasing into twisted scenarios like the darkest of comedy, but Good Mourning is no joke. The album juxtaposes the morbid side of relationships within the band's catchy musical framework. This bodes well for the pop-punk crew, though fans of the band's earlier work may dismiss the poppier direction here . They're missing out. Just try to keep the hooks of the first track "This Could Be Love" from sticking; the song is infectious and almost jubilant-despite lyrics depicting a literal bloodletting at the hand of a wronged lover. "We've Had Enough" is equally engaging, railing against pop while simultaneously stewing in it. Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano take turns singing, with Andriano's more sunny sentiments playing yin to the yang of Skiba's more cynical ways.
