About

On his self-titled debut, Kurtis Blow scores big with comical, good-natured storytelling laid over vintage disco-rap. Throughout, Blow freestyles in his memorably singsong voice, mining funky blues on “Hard Times” and on “Christmas Rappin’,” celebrating the season with a fun rhyme about Santa crashing a New York house party. “The Breaks” conjures up an increasingly ridiculous series of bad situations, from owing money to the Mob to finding out that your lover is already married, all over a groovy backing band led by producer Larry Smith.
