About

Colin Blunstone is best known as the lead singer of The Zombies, whose "Time of the Season" became a hit after the group broke up. Yet he's recently received a modest reappraisal of his solo career, as his influence can be heard in the works of Joe Pernice and other modern writers and musicians. This first official solo album, recorded between June 1970 and June 1971, features work with ex-Zombies Rod Argent and Chris White and their new group Argent, plus string arrangements by Chris Gunning. Denny Laine's "Say You Won't Mind" became a U.K. hit, while Blunstone's own songwriting blossomed with "Caroline Goodbye." Tim Hardin's "Misty Roses" sounds perfectly suited to Blunstone's somber side, while Argent and White's "Her Song" shows Blunstone's romantic possibilities. Nick Drake was rightfully rediscovered many years after the fact, and Blunstone also deserves a wider audience than the cult group that remains committed to spreading the word about these remarkable recordings.
