On The Arcs’ contemplative debut, project mastermind Dan Auerbach wraps his soulful, bluesy vision for rock ’n’ roll in plush layers of sonic velvet and silk. “Stay in My Corner” is a gentle, kindhearted ballad; the singer’s sweet falsetto flutters and swoons like an angel drunk on earthly love. Yet, before you know it, Auerbach has slipped into heartbroken dejection. Over the crumbling, lopsided reggae crawl of “Everything You Do (You Do for You),” he chronicles a relationship that has soured like expired milk.
