About

A product of the Texas/Oklahoma Red Dirt country scene, Turnpike Troubadours let their Okie roots rise up throughout Diamonds & Gasoline, both in the deeply twanging guitars and sawing fiddle, and in frontman Evan Felker’s son-of-the-soil vocal delivery. But from the stripped-down balladry of the title track to the accordion-fueled stomp “Shreveport,” those rootsy tones frame a freewheeling flow of rich, poetic imagery. And the sadness Felker exudes, even on ostensibly upbeat tunes like “Whole Damn Town,” can move you to your core.
