Nothing cemented Jennifer Lopez’s mega A-list status more than her sophomore album <i>J.Lo</i>, which she named after a then-new, since-ubiquitous nickname her fans had given her. Released in January 2001, the album built upon the success of <i>On the 6</i> by letting Lopez focus on the dance floor first and foremost. With blockbuster singles “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” “I’m Real,” and “Ain’t It Funny,” she dominated more than just the clubs: She was all over radio, <i>TRL</i>, and everywhere in between. But the real treats are the Latin-pop deep cuts like “Cariño” and “Dame (Touch Me),” nods to the sound that made <i>On the 6</i> such a breakthrough. With <i>J.Lo</i>, she proved that music was not just a silly side project. She was first inspired to pursue her own career in pop music after starring in the 1997 biopic <i>Selena</i>, all while continuing to be one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars: <i>J.Lo</i> arrived the same week as her hit rom-com <i>The Wedding Planner</i>. With the 25th Anniversary Edition of <i>J.Lo</i>, the multi-hyphenate celebrates her longevity and the timeless pop anthems she delivered straight out the gate. Alongside the Ja Rule remixes of “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny,” which helped those songs become best-selling singles, she unleashes all the tracks featured on international editions of the album’s original physical release, like “I’m Waiting” and Spanish-language versions of several songs. Plus, she enlists Trixie Mattel for a lively remix of “Play” and drops the previously unreleased track “Crazy (Nobody Else).”
