About
Andrew Weatherall's Convenanza unites two of his greatest loves: post-punk and acid house. The UK producer is as idiosyncratic as ever in this dank, dubby set, beginning with the echo-laden vocals he lays down over spindly disco basslines and scratchy machine grooves. He casts a wide net: "Frankfurt Advice" ropes in hypnotic Krautrock riffs and meandering horn solos, while "Disappear" drips wailing theremin over sparkling acoustic guitars and flanged bass. The shimmering "Thirteenth Night" suggests New Order gone ambient, and "All That's Left" makes a daring journey into a gurgling analog darkness.
