Multi-instrumentalist brothers Peter and David Brewis display a dazzling degree of musical command, weaving unusual rhythms and unconventional harmonies so seamlessly into their tunes that the group’s complex art pop constructions never lose the “pop” part of the equation. From the cubist funk of “Don’t You Want to Know What’s Wrong?” to the chamber-pop charms of “They Want You to Remember,” <i>Commontime</i> overflows with thrilling surprises.
