Paris’ Ed Banger label has always served as a meeting point for rock, rap, and rave, and this 2007 compilation is no exception. Justice’s “Phantom” elicits headbanging, fist-pumping thrills with rough-cut funk samples and ragged synth buzz; Uffie’s “Dismissed,” like a post-apocalyptic L’Trimm, trots out golden-age hip-hop flow over shuddering electronic beats. Label head Busy P ignites a face-melting conflagration with “Rainbow Man,” in which a slow-motion techno stomp rages with all the fury of heavy metal. It’s party music for the post-everything generation.
