About

Plague Vendor’s 2014 debut Free to Eat was just 18 minutes long, but their second album swaps quickie outbursts for more sustained agitation. Brandon Blaine also screams less here, in favor of a poised demeanor that evokes both Jon Spencer and Lux Interior. His mouthy bravado is especially potent on “Anchor to Ankles” and “No Bounty,” which find intensity in ominous lyrics rather than rapid-fire playing. By the end, Plague Vendor feel less like punk upstarts than dark-hearted all-American rockers, recounting wild Saturday nights and slamming Uncle Sam.
