About
The second album by Ann Arbor’s Pity Sex finds the four-piece bedding deeper into their sweet yet prickly sound. There’s an undeniably emo undercurrent to White Hot Moon, particularly in “Burden You”, where Brennan Greaves translates Britty Drake’s plea, “I wanna burn in you,” to “I wanna burden you.” But there’s deeper sentiment here, too: “Plums” finds Drake confronting the loss of a parent, and Pity Sex create an intimate, if despairing atmosphere by marrying dark, fuzzy punk to sweet indie-pop vocals.
