Fans of Little Big Town's infatuation with those heavenly harmonies inspired by Fleetwood Mac will be glad that they haven't outgrown their adoration for Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham influenced vocals — as evidenced by the opening "Fine Line" on their third album which is very reminiscent of the aforementioned's "Go Your Own Way" (though much more twangy). With <i>A Place To Land</i>, Little Big Town take your arm and walk you through their old vinyl collection, letting you listen to their favorite records through the band's ears. But as much as the warm and familiar sounding "I'm With The Band" may remind you of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the chemistry within this quartet stands out with a fresh individuality that is solely their own sound. Even though the title track leans on early 1970s Los Angelino canyon born country rock, the rhythm section bobs and weaves with a soulful strut that's 100 percent Little Big Town. And while it's refreshing to hear a modern band pay homage to a bygone sound, their live cover of the 1985 Dream Academy hit "Life In A Northern Town" breaks them from their own mold hinting at a less predictable direction.
